Queen Lili’uokalani Cartoons
Queen Lili’uokalani was the last ruler of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Her government was overthrown by the United States Marine Corps 16 Jan 1893. After the coup Hawaii was governed by Honolulu-born Sanford Dole, the son of Protestant American missionaries. Walter Q. Gresham was President Grover Cleveland’s Secretary of State. The man with the sign is Joseph Pulitzer of the New York World.
